The short answer is… yes and no!

What's the difference between a registrar and a celebrant?
A registrar performs the legal marriage. They follow a set legal script, and the ceremony must take place in a licensed venue.
An independent wedding celebrant (like me!) creates a completely bespoke wedding ceremony that's all about you. Every love story, every promise, every laugh and every happy tear is written especially for you.
Want to get married in your garden? A woodland? A family home? A beautiful riverside setting? With a celebrant-led wedding, the possibilities are endless.
So, is my celebrant wedding legal?
At the moment, in England, your legal marriage still needs to be completed separately through a registrar or at a register office.
The good news? Many couples choose to complete the legal paperwork on a different day, often with just two witnesses, then have the wedding ceremony they really want with their celebrant.

Your celebrant ceremony is the part where everyone laughs, cries, applauds and remembers your day for years to come.
Why are more couples choosing a celebrant?
